GrooveFile for iPhone and iPad
Start Your Collection
GrooveFile works independently on iPhone and iPad. A Mac is not required. Open Scan and enter a barcode or choose Scan with Camera. Press the scan button for each barcode; successful scans give visual feedback, sound and a counter. Repeated barcodes require approval before another copy is added.
Lookups continue in the local scan queue. One match can be added directly; when several editions match, compare format, year, country and catalogue number. A barcode match does not verify a physical pressing. You can search by artist or title, retry an unsuccessful lookup, or add a record manually. Pending scans remain on this device and are not included in collection sync.
MusicBrainz needs no key. Optional Discogs lookup requires your own personal access token in Settings. The token is stored in Keychain on this device, not in exported collection backups.
Browse, Edit and Organise
Collection lets you search and filter your copies. Open a record to see its edition and edit copy details such as condition, location, purchase price and notes. Changes are saved locally; a failed save is reported instead of silently discarded. Use scan batches for shared acquisition details and boxes for physical placement. On iPad, the sidebar and detail workspace keep navigation and the selected copy available together. Native box QR links open the corresponding box.
Shop Check compares a scanned barcode with your saved collection, including offline. It distinguishes an edition match from a possible album match. An absent barcode match is not proof that you do not own another edition. Online metadata and uncached artwork require a connection.
Optional iCloud
Sign in to iCloud in device Settings, then choose Connect iCloud in GrooveFile. Use the same Apple account on your other devices. No Mac needs to stay on. Connecting uploads your collection, including private notes, photos and prices. Changes and deletions can then reach your other connected devices.
Settings shows sync stages, progress, elapsed time and scheduled retries. Local saving and cloud completion are separate. Review conflicting edits before choosing what to keep. Pause stops syncing; it does not delete cloud data. Sync remains Beta while broader multi-device and recovery testing continues.
Backup and Recovery
Export Complete Backup creates an independent collection archive. Store a copy outside this device; local recovery copies cannot protect against losing it. Archives are not password-protected. Provider tokens and pending scan queues are not included in collection sync.
Import Collection Backup imports into an empty library only. Recovery can preview local files or read iCloud checkpoints without enabling uploads. Restore selected missing copies without replacing existing copies. A complete recovery is available only into an empty library. Sync transfers deletions and is not a substitute for an independent backup.
